In an effort to give back to the community and continue being a leader in her field, Loretta has been active in the following organizations:

  • Central Valley Mothers of Twins Club (CVMOTC) Librarian and conducted International Literature Review on twins and their families (1989-1995).
  • Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (1990),
  • National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP); various offices, then President of Fresno Chapter (1995),
  • California School Nurse Organization (CSNO) 1995:  Officer of the Central Valley (2001-2003),
  • California Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (CCNP) for current changes in medical care.

Loretta’s parents came to live near her for assistance with their health and personal needs (1997-2004).  Her father suffered with Coronary Artery Disease and Diabetes that resulted in by pass surgery (1997) and progressed to a massive stroke that took his life (2004).  Her step mother suffered from Alzheimer Disease and required much help from Loretta as her dementia progressed before she passed (2004).

Loretta’s twin sons are seniors in high school, her daughter already graduated from college and married, and her Husband of 30 years supports and encourages this special needs daycare.

With strong community ties and a passion for helping others, Loretta aspires to help families be able to reach their optimal potential despite any obstacles that might be in their way.  A wife and mother herself, Loretta’s empathy for each and every family is endless.  Through her own experience, research and networking with people she helps meet the needs of the child and works to integrate the plan with the parents.  Loretta’s kindness and genuine concern for the emotional, physical and spiritual well being of each and every child and family is constantly at the forefront of her motivation.  With her background in health, Loretta has the foundation to meet the needs of the medically fragile and developmentally disabled children and strives to do so every day.

Doug Hicks

Doug Hicks has been married to Loretta since 1978 and takes great pride in the three successful children they have together.  Obtaining a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of California Davis in 1980, Doug has a long standing and impressive career in fire service.  Starting out as a volunteer firefighter in 1974, he went on to hold the rank of Division Chief with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire).  In his career, Doug has had the honor of serving as an Operations Chief, Air Operations Director and as a Deputy Incident Commander.  In addition to helping manage the State’s largest emergency incidents as part of one of the Type I incident management teams, Doug has maintained a current Emergency Medical Technician Certificate since 1976.

Not only does Doug posses the integrity and honor that a commanding position in fire service requires, he is continually educating himself and those around him.  During typical day to day fire service experience, emergency medical services are the highest percentage of responses and Doug has been part of the fire ambulance team serving as a first responder fire engines.  Retiring after twenty-eight years with CalFire, he is currently serving as the Battalion Chief for the Tulare County Fire Department.

With a lengthy and impressive career serving those in need, Doug is currently looking forward to assisting Loretta in the operations of Loretta’s Little Miracles and providing the best care available to your special needs child.  With the mentality that he will not only serving the child but providing respite and enrichment for the caring family of that child, Doug is ready to continue to serve those in need.
